Advice for new students

If you haven’t already done so, here’s where you can set up your Campus Connection, NDSU Electronic ID, and NDSU Email accounts. To set up these accounts, you’ll need your student ID number, which was included in your admission letter. 

If you submitted your FAFSA by February 1, your financial aid award notice will be mailed and emailed to you beginning early March, and will continue to be sent on an ongoing basis to those who submit the FAFSA after February 1. If you have not submitted your FAFSA, visit www.studentaid.gov to learn more.

You will be notified in mid-February if you received a scholarship award from NDSU. You must officially accept or decline your award by logging into AcademicWorks. The scholarship application deadlines for fall semester are:

• February 1 for first year students
• April 1 for transfer students and Cultural Diversity Tuition Waiver

All first-year students and transfer students starting within one year of high school graduation, are guaranteed housing through our live-on requirement. Other transfer students may elect to live on campus and have several housing options from which to choose. You must apply for housing to receive an assigned hall and room. Visit Residence Life’s website to apply and check out the latest information on roommate selection, room assignments and the move-in process. 

Orientation is required for all first-year students. Registration will open in mid-April. Please complete the pre-registration steps and the You Belong Here online orientation before your in-person orientation session. Additional details regarding orientation will be emailed to you.

Remember to have your official final transcript(s) sent to NDSU. The deadline to submit all transcripts is July 1. High school transcripts must have a graduation date and be signed by a school official. If you have enrolled in any college course work (transfer students, or high school students taking PSEO, Dual Credit, CIS), have an official transcript sent to NDSU from each institution granting credit. Failure to provide transcripts may prevent registration and financial aid may not be distributed.  

If you’ve completed college or university classes (CIS, PSEO, or dual enrollment), have your official transcripts submitted to NDSU. Your transcripts will be forwarded to the Office of Registration and Records for official evaluation. You can expect to receive your official transfer credit information (notified via email) about three or four weeks following your admission to NDSU. 

• First Year Students: Let us know your college plans by officially accepting or declining your admission offer by May 2. Click here to complete the brief online form.
• Transfer Students: If you are transferring to NDSU from another college or university, you’ll commit to NDSU by completing orientation and registration. More details will be sent to you by early March.

Thanks to an agreement between North Dakota and Minnesota, Minnesota students are eligible for tuition comparable to resident tuition. Students who graduate from a Minnesota high school and enroll at NDSU within 12 months automatically qualify for reciprocity. No paperwork is necessary. If you plan to attend NDSU more than 12 months following high school graduation, complete the application. You should also apply if you were homeschooled or if you are a transfer student.

NDSU requires all enrolled students to submit immunization documentation for MMR and Meningitis ACWY to Student Health Service. Please see the Student Health Service website for more information on these requirements, how to submit your records and resources for finding your records. Deadlines to submit your immunization records are as follows depending on the semester you start at NDSU:

• Fall Semester: August 1
• Spring Semester: January 1
• Summer Semester: May 1
